Harley Davidson XL1200X 115th Anniversary Forty-Eight 2018 Service Manual

For 2018 Harley celebrated its 115th anniversary with a limited-production edition of the Forty-Eight in exclusive Legend Blue Denim paint. It has all the features of the base model plus the anniversary details. The paint has a depth like no other, with a tattoo-inspired graphic of an eagle holding the Bar and Shield in its talons across the top and right side of the tank, and 115th Anniversary script on the left side. A perforated seat with blue stitching and an embossed “HDMC” complements the paint, “115” is emblazoned in blue script on the gloss black timer cover, and each bike carries a number hand-applied at the factory. The 2018 US price was $11,999, with a Canadian price of $14,399. It has the Forty-Eight’s iconic 2.1-gallon peanut tank, first seen in 1948, a fat MT90 front tire and a solo seat.

The engine is the air-cooled, rubber-mounted 1,202cc Evolution V-twin, with lightweight aluminum heads and cylinders that improve air-cooling efficiency. Bore and stroke are 88.9mm x 96.8mm, with a 10:1 compression ratio, and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection feeds it. Torque is 73 lb-ft (96 Nm) at 3,500 rpm, power is about 66 hp at 6,000 rpm, and Harley lists fuel economy of about 48 mpg. The gearbox is a 5-speed with a multi-plate wet clutch, a 38/57 chain primary drive and a 29/68 belt final drive.

The chassis has a 49mm fork with cartridge damping, massive triple clamps and a fork brace, with an emulsion rear shock that has a screw pre-load adjuster. The wheels are 16-inch black split 9-spoke cast aluminum with machined highlights, with a Michelin Scorcher 130/90B16 73H tire at the front and a 150/80B16 77H at the rear. Rake is about 29.6 degrees with 132mm (5.2 inches) of trail on a 59-inch (1,495mm) wheelbase, and the front brake is a single 300mm disc.

The bike is 85.2 inches (2,165mm) long, 32.9 inches wide and 43.3 inches high, with 4.3 inches (110mm) of ground clearance. Seat height is 26.2 inches laden and 28 inches (710mm) unladen. The tank holds 2.1 gallons (7.9 litres), and engine oil capacity is 2.8 quarts (2.6 litres) with the filter. Weight is 545 lbs (247 kg) as shipped and 556 lbs (252 kg) in running order, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,000 lbs.
