Harley Davidson XL1200NS Sportster Iron 2019 Service Manual

Harley's own line on the Iron 1200 is that it starts with the 1200cc Evolution engine and its famous Sportster torque. It has a throwback look from the 1970s-inspired tank graphics, a low-slung café solo seat, mid-mount controls and mini ape hanger bars for an aggressive, two-fists-in-the-wind riding position. The finishes are blacked out from the powertrain to the air cleaner cover and exhaust, and the fenders are chopped. Wheels are black nine-spoke cast, 19 inches at the front and 16 at the rear. Colours offered included Vivid Black, Barracuda Silver and Billiard Blue.

Power comes from the air-cooled 1,202cc (73.4 cu in) Evolution V-twin, with pushrod-operated overhead valves, hydraulic self-adjusting lifters and two valves per cylinder. The bore and stroke are 3.5 x 3.8 inches (88.9mm x 96.8mm), and the compression ratio is 10:1. Fuel comes from Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Harley's spec sheet lists torque at 70.8 lb-ft. The exhaust is black, staggered, with slash-cut mufflers, and ABS was optional.

Michelin Scorcher 31 tires are fitted, a 100/90B19 front and a 150/80B16 rear. Harley's own dimensions list a 59.6-inch (1,515mm) wheelbase, a 30-degree rake with 4.6 inches (117mm) of trail, 4.3 inches (110mm) of ground clearance and a 86.6-inch (2,200mm) length. Seat height is 25.7 inches laden and 28.9 inches unladen.

The tank is a 3.3-gallon (12.5-litre) peanut-style unit with the warning light at about 0.8 gallons. Oil capacity is 2.8 quarts with the filter, and the transmission holds 1 quart. Weight is 547 lbs (248 kg) as shipped and 564 lbs (256 kg) in running order.
