Sportster 1200 Low XL1200L (2011): The Last Year of the Bigger-Engine Low
Harley describes the Sportster 1200 Low as combining performance, agility and easy-to-handle ergonomics in a long, premium cruiser ready for all takers. 2011 was its last production year. It carried over from 2010, when it gained low-profile rear shocks and a low-profile front fender. Its slammed suspension, stainless pull-back handlebars and mid-mounted foot controls put the rider in a relaxed, confident position. Unlike the 883 Low, which was redesigned for 2011 as the SuperLow, the 1200 Low kept the older Low chassis, with a 19-inch front wheel.
Power comes from the air-cooled 1,200cc Evolution V-twin, with a 88.9mm x 96.8mm (3.5 x 3.812-inch) bore and stroke and a 9.7:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is about 79 lb-ft (108 Nm) at 4,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed with a chain primary and belt final drive. The engine is rubber-mounted, black powder-coated with chrome covers, and the exhaust is a chrome staggered shorty dual.
The 1200 Low has a one-piece two-up seat, a chrome headlamp trim ring and a 4.5-gallon (17-litre) tank. Tires are a 100/90-19 front and a 150/80-16 rear, on 19-inch and 16-inch wheels. US pricing started at $9,899, and fuel economy is rated at about 42 mpg city and 57 mpg highway.
Confirmed figures list a 60.1-inch (1,526mm) wheelbase and a 30.4-degree rake. Seat height is about 28 inches unladen and 26.3 inches (668mm) laden. Weight is about 557 lbs dry and 581 lbs in running order.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2011 Sportster 1200 Low XL1200L running the way it was built to.
