Harley’s tagline for the Roadster is “adrenaline mixed with a shot of garage-built custom style.” It blends the company’s performance-oriented past with the modern custom scene, a street-eating machine with tucked-in, fast-back styling, a chopped rear fender and the peanut-shaped fuel tank, and 1200cc of corner-cranking torque. It sits apart from the other 1200 Sportsters because it’s built to handle: the front is a 43mm inverted fork with cartridge damping and massive triple clamps, the front brakes are dual discs with floating rotors, and the lightweight offset split 5-spoke wheels are 19 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear for easy steering and a sporty look. It has a low-profile two-up seat with a deep scoop that keeps you planted under acceleration, and it puts you 29.5 inches off the ground (785mm unladen). The 2020 US price was $11,499 in Vivid Black or $11,849 in a color, with ABS a $795 option and the security system $395.

Power comes from the air-cooled, rubber-mounted 1,202cc Evolution V-twin, with an 88.9mm bore, a 96.8mm stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. The exhaust is a shorty-dual system with chrome tapered mufflers and laser-cut black heat shields. Torque is 76 lb-ft (103 Nm) at 3,750 rpm by the US J1349 method, or 96 Nm at 4,000 rpm by the European EC 134/2014 method, and power is about 66 hp (49 kW) at 6,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed with a primary chain drive and belt final drive, and Harley lists fuel economy of about 48 mpg.

The steel-framed chassis has a 28.9-degree rake, 5.5 inches (140mm) of trail and a 59.3-inch (1,505mm) wheelbase. The fork has about 4.5 inches (114mm) of travel and the dual rear shocks have about 3.2 inches, with preload adjustment. Tires are a 120/70R19 front and a 150/70R18 rear. Ground clearance is a generous 5.9 inches (150mm), and lean angles are about 30.8 degrees to the right and 31.1 degrees to the left.

The bike is 86 inches (2,185mm) long. The tank holds 3.3 gallons (12.5 litres), and engine oil capacity is 2.8 quarts (2.6 litres) with the filter. Weight is 551 lbs (250 kg) as shipped and 571 lbs (259 kg) in running order.
