Harley Davidson FXSTD Softail Deuce 2000 Service Manual

The Deuce was a brand-new model for 2000. Hot Bike called it "one of the most radically styled production Harleys ever," with a long, sleek tank, a way-low seat and a bobbed rear fender, and said Willie G. Davidson was particularly proud of it. Demand outran supply from the first day. The distinctive details include a stretched fuel tank with an integrated high-rise instrument console running its full length, fully chromed tapered fork legs, a small teardrop headlight, a stacked shotgun exhaust, and a new flush taillight.

The rear end is unique to the Deuce: a 17-inch solid-disc wheel with fluted inside edges, wearing a low-profile 160-series Dunlop. Hot Bike found the wide, sticky footprint superb for cornering but a little choppy over rough surfaces, and noted that Harley's own figures gave the Deuce more right-side cornering clearance than any other Big Twin that year.

Power comes from the air-cooled, counter-balanced Twin Cam 88B, a 1,449cc V-twin with two valves per cylinder and a 95.3 x 101.6mm bore and stroke. It makes a claimed 63 hp and 106 Nm (78.2 lb-ft) of torque through a 5-speed transmission. The "B" marks the added balance shafts that keep the rigid-mounted engine smooth.

Confirmed figures list a single 292mm disc with a four-piston caliper at each wheel, a 25.9-inch seat height, a dry weight of about 305kg (672 lbs), and a top speed around 109 mph. Early Twin Cam engines have a known inspection point in the cam chain tensioner system, so check the service history.
