Softail Standard FXST/FXSTI (2011): The Original Softail Formula on the Twin Cam 96B

The Softail Standard is the model the whole Softail family grew from: a raked-out fork, a bobtail rear fender, and a hidden rear shock that gives the look of a rigid hardtail frame with real suspension underneath. The Softail Custom, which arrived in 1986, was originally the "deluxe" version of this bike. The "I" in FXSTI marks the fuel-injected version.

The 2011 Softail range runs the rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B, an air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with a 3.75 x 4.38 inch bore and stroke, pushrod-operated overhead valves, hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes roughly 125-127 Nm (about 93 lb-ft) of torque at the crank through a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission with a chain primary and belt final drive.

The frame is a mild-steel tubular design with a rectangular-section backbone, a telescopic front fork, and the hidden horizontal-mounted coil-over shock at the rear. For 2011 Harley offered a new ABS option across the Softail line, except on the Cross Bones.

This 1,584cc Twin Cam 96B configuration is the last year before the Softail range moved to the Twin Cam 103B for 2012.
