Softail Standard (2024): "Standard" as in the Standard, Not as in Basic
Cycle World made the wordplay explicit in its 2024 review: "the Softail Standard isn't standard, as in basic; it's the standard" — a nod to the Oxford definition of the word as a measure or model against which everything else gets compared. At $14,999, it's Harley's most accessible entry into the Big Twin Softail lineup, and the only thing genuinely abbreviated about it is the bobbed rear fender.
The Milwaukee-Eight 107 produces a claimed 87 hp at 5,020 rpm and 110 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, displacing 106.49 cubic inches via a 3.9 in. bore and 4.4 in. stroke with a 10.0:1 compression ratio. While the rest of Harley's cruiser lineup has moved up to the 114 and 117 engines, the Softail Standard sticks with the 107 deliberately — giving buyers plenty of Big Twin character while leaving room in the budget for customization, which is the entire point of the bike's minimalist "blank canvas" philosophy.
Introduced in 2020 as a dedicated entry point into the modern, unified Softail chassis first launched in 2018, the Standard strips away the extras that define its pricier siblings: no two-up seating, no elaborate paint, minimal chrome. What's left is a minimalist solo seat, mini-ape handlebars, a dog-dish air filter, and a round Daymaker headlight, run through a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission and 2-into-2 shotgun pipes along the right side. Silver Annihilator cast aluminum wheels run 19-inch front and 16-inch rear. Dimensions run 91.3 in. long with a 26.8 in. seat height, riding on 100/90B19 and 150/80B16 tires, shipping at 642 lbs (655 lbs in running order) with a 3.5-gallon tank rated for a claimed 47 combined mpg. 2024 colors were Billiard Gray ($14,999) and Vivid Black ($15,349).
