The FXSB Breakout debuted in 2013 as the regular-production version of a design Harley had already tested a year earlier on the pricier CVO Breakout — Kirk Rasmussen, Harley's Styling Manager at the time, explained the philosophy directly: "we begin by stripping the bike down to the bones and building up from there." Motorcycle.com's own launch review captured the value proposition bluntly: where the CVO version launched "awash in chrome and sparkle" at $26,499, this genuine production model arrived stripped-down and no-BS at $17,899.

Power comes from the Twin Cam 103, an air-cooled V-twin displacing 1,690cc (103.1 cu in), pushrod-operated overhead valves with hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, delivering a claimed 95.5 lb-ft (129.5 Nm) of torque at 3,000 rpm through a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission with belt final drive. This is the genuine launch-year configuration of the FXSB — worth knowing that ABS was optional on this exact 2013 model, only becoming standard equipment the following year in 2014.

Design cues drew directly from 1950s and 60s Gasser drag-racing culture: alternating-spoke "Gasser" wheels in Vivid Black and machined finish, a massive 240mm rear tire (the widest ever fitted to a production Harley at the time), fenders chopped to the legal limit, and exclusive drag-style handlebars set low and wide for an aggressive, lean-forward riding position. Confirmed dimensions list a 96.3-inch overall length, 67.3-inch wheelbase, a 5-gallon fuel tank, and a genuine 648 lb (294kg) weight, with a four-piston single-caliper front brake and two-piston floating rear.

This exact 2013 launch specification opened a five-year Twin Cam production run for the FXSB, which continued through 2017 before Harley's 2018 Softail platform redesign replaced it with the Milwaukee-Eight-powered FXBR.
