Low Rider S (2025): High Output 117 Turns a Cruiser Into a "Race Bike Feel"

Motorcycle.com's first-ride review didn't hold back on the 2025 Low Rider S: the High Output tune of the Milwaukee-Eight 117 makes the bike "immediately evident" as something different the moment corners appear, delivering what Harley's own engineers describe as a "highly tuned, race bike feel." Ultimate Motorcycling credited the change to MotoAmerica's King of the Baggers series reshaping how the industry thinks about performance cruisers — hot-rodding is now mainstream, and Harley built the 2025 Low Rider S to prove it.

The new Milwaukee-Eight 117 High Output engine delivers a claimed 114 hp at 5,000 rpm and 128 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, tuned specifically to deliver peak power higher in the rev range than standard 117 tunes, with new cylinder heads, an aluminum contoured intake manifold, and improved oil cooling. Motorcycle.com's testing found the torque ramp especially noticeable around 3,000 rpm in Sport mode — genuinely exhilarating, though the reviewer felt Harley could smooth the delivery slightly. A lightweight, blacked-out exhaust and forward-angled Heavy Breather intake round out the performance hardware.

Chassis upgrades match the engine's ambition: a cartridge-style 43mm inverted fork with refined damping and 5 inches of travel, paired with a rear shock running 13mm more stroke than the rest of the Softail lineup for 4.4 inches of travel. Motorcycle.com found front-end feedback massively improved and the bike genuinely stable under aggressive cornering or hard braking, aided by dual front rotors. A steep 28-degree rake, 5.7 inches of trail, and a short 63.6-inch wheelbase — the sharpest geometry in the Softail range — ride on 19-/16-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Scorcher tires. Three selectable ride modes (Road, Rain, Sport) adjust power delivery, engine braking, and safety intervention, backed by retuned front and rear suspension that Harley's engineers say noticeably reduces harshness and brake dive after just one ride. A steep-backed solo seat, adjustable front brake lever, and dual heated-gear pigtails round out the comfort updates. 2025 colors included a color-shifting Mystic Shift finish alongside four other premium options.
