Road Glide Special FLTRXS (2023): The Blacked-Out or Chrome Sharknose Bagger, in Its Last Year Before the Redesign
Harley sold the 2023 Road Glide Special as a blacked-out or bright-chrome performance bagger loaded with premium features. It’s built around the frame-mounted Sharknose fairing, with an upright riding position, floorboards, a passenger seat, saddlebags and the Boom! Box GTS infotainment system. 2023 brought never-before-offered two-tone paint schemes and Long-Haul packages in chrome or black. A serialized 120th Anniversary version (FLTRXSANV) was sold alongside it. The Road Glide was redesigned for 2024, so this is the last year of the previous generation.
Power comes from the Milwaukee-Eight 114, a 1,868cc oil-cooled V-twin with four valves per cylinder, a 102mm bore, a 114.3mm stroke and a 10.5:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is about 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) at 3,250 rpm. Drive goes through a 6-speed transmission with belt final drive, and the heel-toe shifter is standard. Fuel economy is rated at about 43 mpg.
Harley’s own figures list a 95.7-inch (2,430mm) length, a 64-inch wheelbase and 5.1 inches of ground clearance. Seat height is 26.1 inches laden and 27.4 inches unladen, with 26 degrees of rake and 6.8 inches of trail. Tires are Dunlop Harley-Davidson Series, a 130/60B19 front and a 180/55B18 rear.
The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres) with a 1-gallon reserve, and oil capacity is 5.2 quarts with the filter. Weight is 818 lbs as shipped and 853 lbs in running order, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,360 lbs. Luggage capacity is about 0.071 cubic meters. US pricing started at $27,999 plus an $850 destination charge.
