Road Glide FLTRX (2019): The Sharknose Bagger with the Milwaukee-Eight 107
Harley’s tagline for the Road Glide is “often imitated, but never equaled.” The base Road Glide, in the touring line since 2010, carried over into 2019 with the Milwaukee-Eight 107, easily adjustable emulsion rear shocks, responsive front suspension and the confidence of Reflex linked Brembo brakes. The frame-mounted shark-nose fairing and its aggressive hot-rod look are what set it apart, with a windscreen sized to deflect air without a tall shield, one-touch saddlebags and a comfortable two-up seat with a grab rail. The 2019 touring family got a new infotainment generation, but the 114 engine went only to the Ultra Limited, Ultra Limited Low, Road Glide Ultra, Road Glide Special, Street Glide Special and Road King Special, so this base model kept the 107. The 2019 US price was $21,589.
The engine is the Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1,746cc air/oil-cooled V-twin with four valves per cylinder, a 100.1mm bore, a 111.3mm stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio, with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) at 3,250 rpm, power is about 89 hp at 5,450 rpm, and fuel economy is about 43 mpg. The exhaust is dual with a crossover. The gearbox is a 6-speed with a multi-plate wet clutch, a 34/46 chain primary drive and belt final drive.
The chassis has a 26-degree rake with 6.8 inches (173mm) of trail on a 64-inch (1,625mm) wheelbase. Brakes are dual hydraulic front discs and a rear disc, and tires are a Dunlop 130/60B19 61H front and a 180/65B16 81H rear. The bike is about 95.7 inches (2,431mm) long, 38.6 inches (980mm) wide and 51.6 inches (1,310mm) high, with 5.5 inches (140mm) of ground clearance. Seat height is 25.9 inches (658mm) laden and 27.4 inches (695mm) unladen.
The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres) and the saddlebags hold about 2.3 cubic feet (65 litres). Weight is 820 lbs (372 kg) as shipped and 855 lbs (388 kg) in running order, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,360 lbs and a payload of about 505 lbs.
