Road Glide FLTRX (2018): The Sharknose Bagger on the Milwaukee-Eight 107
Harley’s tagline for the Road Glide is “often imitated, but never equaled.” The base Road Glide has been in the touring line since 2010, and it has the distinctive frame-mounted shark-nose fairing, the Milwaukee-Eight 107, easily adjustable emulsion rear shocks, responsive front suspension and Reflex linked Brembo brakes with optional ABS, which electronically link the front and rear brakes. The Boom! Box 4.3 infotainment system (25 watts per channel, 5.25-inch speakers) has Bluetooth and a USB port. The wheels are Enforcer cast aluminum. The 2018 US price was $21,299.
The engine is the Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1,746cc air/oil-cooled V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves, hydraulic self-adjusting lifters and four valves per cylinder. Bore and stroke are 100mm x 111.1mm (3.937 x 4.375 in), with a 10:1 compression ratio and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) at 3,250 rpm, power is about 89 hp at 5,450 rpm, and Harley lists fuel economy of about 45 mpg. The exhaust is a chrome 2-1-2 dual system with tapered mufflers. The gearbox is a 6-speed with a 34/46 chain primary drive and belt final drive, with overall ratios of 9.593, 6.65, 4.938, 4.0, 3.407 and 2.875.
The front suspension is a 49mm fork with about 4.6 inches (117mm) of travel. Brakes are dual 300mm front discs and a rear disc with 32mm four-piston fixed calipers, and tires are a Dunlop Multi-Tread 130/60B19 61H at the front and a 180/65B16 81H at the rear. Rake is 26 degrees with 6.8 inches of trail on a 64-inch (1,625mm) wheelbase. The bike is 95.7 inches (2,430mm) long, with 5.5 inches (140mm) of ground clearance. Seat height is 25.9 inches laden and 27.4 inches (695mm) unladen.
The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres), engine oil capacity is 5.2 quarts with the filter, and the saddlebags hold about 2.3 cubic feet. The Road Glide weighs 820 lbs (372 kg) as shipped and 855 lbs (388 kg) in running order.
