Road Glide Ultra FLTRU (2018): “A Ride That Could Make a Continent Feel Too Small,” on the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 107
Harley’s tagline for the 2018 Road Glide Ultra is “a ride that could make a continent feel too small.” The frame-mounted shark-nose fairing, a 13.5-inch windscreen and dual Daymaker reflector LED headlamps give it a distinctive appearance, and the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 107 is matched by responsive front and rear suspension and powerful Reflex linked Brembo brakes with ABS. Standard equipment includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated GPS (Boom! Box 6.5GT audio) and a premium Tour-Pak luggage carrier with a luggage rack. The 2018 US price was $26,399 for Vivid Black ($26,999 in a color), with seven colors, four solid and three two-tone.
The engine is the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1,746cc V-twin with liquid-cooled cylinder heads, four valves per cylinder, a 100mm bore, a 111.1mm stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection feeds it, and the exhaust is a chrome dual system with 4-inch touring mufflers and shields. Torque is about 112-113 lb-ft (about 153 Nm) at 3,250 rpm, power is about 90 hp at 5,450 rpm, and Harley lists fuel economy of about 43 mpg. The gearbox is a 6-speed with a 34/46 chain primary drive and belt final drive. Cycle World’s dyno found 78 hp and 102 lb-ft at the rear wheel.
The chassis has a 26-degree rake with 6.7 inches (170mm) of trail on a 64-inch (1,625mm) wheelbase. Brakes are dual front discs and a rear disc with ABS, and tires are a Dunlop Multi-Tread 130/80B17 65H at the front and a 180/65B16 81H at the rear on Impeller cast aluminum wheels. The Ultra is about 102.2 inches (2,595mm) long, with 5.1 inches (130mm) of ground clearance. Seat height is 27.2 inches laden and 28.9 inches (735mm) unladen.
The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres), and the Tour-Pak and saddlebags hold about 4.7 cubic feet. The Road Glide Ultra weighs 899 lbs (408 kg) as shipped and about 937 lbs (425 kg) in running order.
