Road Glide FLTR (2008): Harley's Own Pitch — "A Sweet Way to Ride," With the Fuel Tank Grown 20% Across the Whole Touring Range

Harley's own 2008 press release doesn't undersell this model year's changes: "an all new Braking System with available ABS for all 2008 Harley-Davidson Touring models is among a large list of new features that make this the most luxurious line of long-distance motorcycles ever offered by the Motor Company." That same release confirms the genuine tank upgrade applied across the board: "fuel capacity of all Touring models is increased by 20 percent, from five to six gallons." A real 105th Anniversary colorway — two-tone Copper Pearl/Vivid Black — was offered alongside the standard range that year.

Power comes from the air-cooled Twin Cam 96, a 1,584cc V-twin, pushrod-operated overhead valves with hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, a 95.3mm x 111.3mm bore and stroke, and a 9.2:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), delivering a claimed 92-92.6 lb-ft (125.6 Nm) of torque at 3,000-3,500 rpm through a 6-speed transmission with a carbon-fibre final drive belt.

Harley's own copy confirms the Road Glide's defining feature: an aerodynamic, frame-mounted "shark nose" fairing that genuinely reduces weight on the fork and handlebars, since the fairing itself stays fixed to the frame rather than turning with the bars. Standard equipment included a 40-watt CD/AM/FM/WB/MP3 Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon, GTX Nylon hard saddlebags with color-matched latches, a clean front fender, a smoked chrome 3D tank emblem, streamliner footboards and brake pedal, low-profile rear suspension, and rear fender ground effects.

Confirmed factory dimensions list a 93.7-inch length, a 26.9-29.5-inch laden seat height (figures vary slightly by source), 5.1 inches of ground clearance, a 26-degree rake, and MT90B16 front/MU85B16 rear Dunlop tires. Dry weight sits at 752 lbs (787-789 lbs in running order).

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2008 Road Glide FLTR running the way it was built to.
