Softail Springer Classic FLSTSC/FLSTSCI (2006): The Springer Front End with Heritage-Style Touring Looks

Harley introduced the Softail Springer Classic in 2005, and it’s the Springer-front-end version of the FL-style Softails, with a chrome leading-link Springer fork, laced steel wheels with fat tires and the retro touring look of a Heritage. For 2006 it listed at $17,195 plus $275 destination. A bagger-style FLSTSC has a bobtail-like rear, studded leather trim and a passenger pillion you can remove to enhance the nostalgic look.

Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counterbalanced Twin Cam 88B, an air-cooled 1,450cc (88 cubic inch) V-twin with a 95.3mm bore and a 101.6mm stroke and an 8.9:1 compression ratio. It’s offered with a 40mm carburetor (FLSTSC) or Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (FLSTSCI). Torque is about 85 lb-ft (115 Nm) at 3,000 rpm, and Harley lists fuel economy of about 50 mpg on the highway and 42 mpg in the city. The gearbox is a 5-speed with belt final drive.

The parts data lists 130/90H-16 (MT90B16) tires front and rear on 16-inch wheels, a 139-tooth, 1 1/2-inch belt on 32/70 pulleys, an RA8HC spark plug, an H30292 oil filter, a GYZ32HL battery, an H4 headlight bulb and a 1157 taillight bulb. One source lists the Springer Softail at about 670 lbs (304 kg), and the Springer Classic is heavier.
