Harley Davidson FLSTSB Softail Cross Bones 2011 Service Manual

Harley's own description of the Cross Bones looks back to returning soldiers who stripped parts off their bikes for performance and fitted fat gas tanks to ride across the country. The look is deliberately raw: a gloss-black Springer front end with chrome springs, a chopped front fender, laced steel wheels with gloss-black rims, half-round floorboards, a bobtail rear fender with black supports, and a sprung solo seat. The Cross Bones did not return in the 2012 lineup.

Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B, an air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with a 3.75 x 4.38 inch bore and stroke and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes a claimed 127 Nm (93.7 lb-ft) of torque at 3,000 rpm through a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission with a 133-tooth, 20mm belt final drive (32/66 pulleys). The powertrain is black powder-coated with polished covers, and the deluxe exhaust has slash-cut mufflers.

New for 2011 were hand controls with fewer wires, an odometer trip switch, a single-button hazard warning, a larger odometer readout with gear and RPM display, and a fuel tank sender. Harley offered ABS on the rest of the 2011 Softail line but not on the Cross Bones.

Confirmed figures list a 90.5-inch overall length, a 26.6-inch laden seat height (30.1 inches unladen), 4.9 inches of ground clearance, a 32.5-degree rake with a 24.2-degree fork angle and 6.3 inches of trail, and a 64.5-inch wheelbase. It rolls on an MT90HB-16 front tire and a wide 200/55VR-17 rear. It carries 5 gallons of fuel and 3.5 quarts of oil, and weighs 700 lbs dry and 731 lbs ready to ride. US pricing started at $16,999 in Vivid Black.
