Harley Davidson FLSTSB Softail Cross Bones 2009 Service Manual

Harley's pitch for the Cross Bones is a Springer front end and authentic post-war bobber details, in a raw, stripped-down-and-chopped custom. For 2009 it carried over from its 2008 debut with a new Willie G. Davidson-signed skull graphic on the oil tank. The styling is a gloss-black Springer front end with chrome springs, a chopped front fender with pinstriping, a bobtail rear fender, gloss-black mini ape-hanger handlebars and a gloss-black cat-eye console. It has half-moon old-school footboards, tribal pinstripe graphics and an adjustable sprung solo seat with leather lacing.

Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B, an air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves and hydraulic self-adjusting lifters. It has a 95.3 x 111.1mm bore and stroke and a 9.2:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Claimed torque is about 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft). The gearbox is a 6-speed Cruise Drive with a 9-plate wet clutch and belt final drive. The powertrain is black powder-coated with polished covers, and the exhaust is a chrome straight over/under shotgun with dual mufflers.

The chassis is a mild-steel tubular frame with a rectangular-section backbone and a black leading-link Springer front end, with 5.1 inches (130mm) of front wheel travel. A hidden horizontal coil-over shock at the rear gives 4.3 inches (109mm). Brakes are a single 292mm disc at each wheel. The bike rolls on laced steel wheels, an MT90B16 front and a fat 200/55R17 rear.

Confirmed dimensions list a 64.5-inch wheelbase, a 32-degree rake with 6.3 inches (160mm) of trail and a 26.6-inch seat height. The tank holds 5 gallons, and dry weight is about 700 lbs (317.5 kg).
