Softail Deluxe FLSTN (2014): Retro Hardtail Looks with Twin Cam 103B Power, and “Deluxe” on Every Fender

Harley sold the 2014 Softail Deluxe as pure nostalgic beauty wrapped around completely modern power and performance. It looks like a hardtail, with the shocks hidden under the frame, and has true retro fenders with long lines and chrome tips, each marked “Deluxe”. The wide front fork carries a 7-inch ball headlamp, and the wide whitewall tires on laced wheels give it a 1950s boulevard look. The seat is very low at 24.5 inches, with “collapsing” sides and a detachable passenger pillion, which suits shorter riders, and the bike also has a pull-back handlebar and risers and an easy-reach kickstand. Optional Hard Candy Custom paint offered a large metal flake finish that recalls 1970s custom bikes. ABS was optional.

Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counterbalanced Twin Cam 103B, an air-cooled 1,690cc V-twin with a 98.4mm x 111.1mm bore and stroke and a 9.6:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is about 99 lb-ft (132 Nm) at 3,250 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed Cruise Drive with belt final drive, and the powertrain has a black powder-coated finish with chrome covers.

Confirmed figures list a 41.3mm telescopic fork with chrome dust covers, a 5-gallon tank and a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,160 lbs. Dry weight is about 695 lbs, or about 726 lbs wet. The Twin Cam 103B arrived on the Softail Deluxe in 2012, so 2014 is the third year of this engine on the bike.
