Softail Deluxe (2008): '50s Style, Wide Whitewalls, and the Reliable Twin Cam 96B

By 2008, the FLSTN name had shifted entirely away from its earlier Heritage Nostalgia association, becoming Harley's dedicated retro-styled Deluxe model — a bike Harley's own catalog describes as "dripping with nostalgia," from an integrated luggage rack and check-side-panel seat with a chrome grab rail, to full-length footboards and wide whitewall tires on chrome laced steel wheels. A classic tombstone tail light rounds out the vintage detailing at the rear.

Power comes from the 1,584cc Twin Cam 96B, a rigid-mounted, internally balanced V-twin with a 3.75 in. bore and 4.38 in. stroke, delivering a claimed 89 lb-ft of torque at 3,300 rpm through electronic sequential port fuel injection and a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission. A black powder-coated engine with chrome-treatment covers pairs with a chrome, straight over/under shotgun dual exhaust — a genuinely eye-catching finish combination that set the Deluxe apart from its more heavily chromed Heritage Classic sibling.

Styling leans hard into '50s Americana: a pull-back stainless steel handlebar, full-coverage fenders front and rear with chrome accents and supports, and MU85B-16 rear/MT90-16 front wide whitewall tires. Dimensions run 94.7 in. long with a 64.5 in. wheelbase, 32-degree rake, and a genuinely low 24.5 in. laden seat height (25.9 in. unladen). It carries a 5-gallon tank and ships at 695 lbs dry (724 lbs in running order).
