Softail Deluxe FLSTN (2007): The Lowest Harley of the Year, Now with the Twin Cam 96B
The Softail Deluxe sets its sights to the future with a look to the past. A 24.5-inch seat height made it the lowest Harley-Davidson 2007 model and one of the lowest on the market. The style is nostalgic, with a unique paint scheme, cloisonné and abundant chrome. It has a comfortable pullback riser and wide handlebar, an integrated luggage rack, checked seat side panels with a chrome grab rail, new full-length footboards and a classic tombstone taillight. It rolls on wide whitewall tires on chrome laced steel 16-inch wheels, with special tank and fender emblems and a chrome oil tank. New four-hole fender supports allow more customizing. Chrome profile laced aluminum wheels were a factory option, and it came in four solid and three new two-tone colors. The US price was $17,345 plus $290 destination.
2007 was the year Harley’s Softail line moved from the Twin Cam 88B to the Twin Cam 96B. This is a rigid-mounted, counterbalanced, air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with a 95.3mm bore and a 111.3mm stroke and a 9.2:1 compression ratio. The powertrain is black powder-coated with chrome covers. Torque is about 92 lb-ft (about 124.7 Nm) at 3,000 rpm, though some sources list slightly different figures. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection is standard, and the gearbox is a new 6-speed Cruise Drive with belt final drive. Harley lists fuel economy of about 53 mpg on the highway and 34 mpg in the city.
Hardtail styling hides the horizontal rear shocks under the frame. Confirmed figures list a 24.5-inch laden seat height, a length of about 94.7 inches, a dry weight of about 693 lbs (315 kg) and a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,160 lbs.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Softail Deluxe FLSTN running the way it was built to.
