Softail Deluxe FLSTN/FLSTNI (2006): Whitewall-to-Whitewall Nostalgia on the Twin Cam 88B

Harley says the FLSTN/I Softail Deluxe combines easy-riding comfort with a heavy dose of nostalgia to create an eye-catching custom that’s a joy to ride. Whitewall to whitewall, every detail is sheer beauty, with wide whitewall tires over laced chrome wheels, a tapered chrome luggage rack, checked seat side panels with a chrome grab rail, tapered floorboards with chrome trim, clean front and rear light bars with bullet signals, distinctive tank and fender emblems and a classic tombstone taillight. The pull-back riser and handlebar and a 24.5-inch seat height suit riders big and small. The 2006 US price was $16,995 plus $275 destination.

Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counterbalanced Twin Cam 88B, an air-cooled 1,450cc (88 cubic inch) V-twin in wrinkle black and chrome, with a 95.18mm x 101.52mm bore and stroke and an 8.9:1 compression ratio. It was offered “carb or EFI”, with the FLSTNI being fuel-injected. Torque is about 85 lb-ft (115 Nm) at 3,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 5-speed with belt final drive.

Brakes are a single 292mm front disc and a single 292mm rear disc, each with a four-piston caliper, and the fork is a 41mm telescopic. Tires are a D402F MT90-16 front and an MU85B16 rear, on 16-inch laced steel wheels. Confirmed figures list a 64.5-inch wheelbase, a 5-gallon tank, a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,160 lbs, a dry weight of about 693 lbs and a weight in running order of about 724 lbs.
