Softail Fat Boy Lo FLSTFB (2010): The First Fat Boy Lo, with the Lowest Seat Height in the Harley Lineup
The 2010 Fat Boy Lo was a new model. Harley describes it as darker and lower, keeping the bold presence of the Fat Boy while giving it a fresh interpretation. It uses the same chassis as the Fat Boy but lowers the rear suspension by 1.15 inches and adds a narrower, reshaped seat. The result was a 24.25-inch seat, the lowest of any Harley model at the time. New for 2010 is a helical-cut fifth gear for smoother transmission sound. The two colours offered were Vivid Black and Black Denim.
Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B, an air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves and hydraulic self-adjusting lifters. It has a 95.25 x 111.25mm bore and stroke and a 9.2:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection with single-fire, map-controlled ignition. Torque is about 125 Nm (92 lb-ft) at 3,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed Cruise Drive, with a multi-plate wet clutch and belt final drive on a 32/66 ratio. Gear ratios run from 9.311 in first to 2.790 in sixth.
The chassis is a mild-steel tubular frame with a rectangular-section backbone, a 41.3mm telescopic fork with chrome dust covers and a hidden horizontal coil-over rear shock. Braking is a single 292mm disc at each wheel. Tires are a 140/75R17 front and a 200/55R17 rear. Styling includes a rolled-edge front fender, a full-coverage rear fender, a Fat Bob tank with a satin-chrome console, an over/under shotgun exhaust with satin-chrome mufflers and flat-black header shields, and denim-black finishes.
Confirmed dimensions list a 96.2-inch (2,445mm) length, a 64.5-67.5-inch wheelbase (sources differ), a 31.6-degree rake with 5.7-5.8 inches of trail, and a seat height of 24.3 inches laden and 26.4 inches unladen. The tank holds 5 gallons and oil capacity is 3.5 quarts. Dry weight is 700 lbs (731 lbs in running order). Fuel economy is 35 mpg city and 54 mpg highway, and the US price was $16,299.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2010 Softail Fat Boy Lo FLSTFB running the way it was built to.
