Fat Boy 1993-1994: Four Years In, Still the Original Formula Unchanged
By 1993, the Fat Boy was into its fourth consecutive model year, and Harley wisely left a proven design alone — this generation carried forward the exact same styling brief that made the FLSTF an instant icon after its 1990 debut, with 1994 continuing that streak of zero significant modifications before the seamless exhaust arrived the following year. It's the version of the Fat Boy most closely tied to the bike's breakout pop-culture moment, having already cemented its reputation on-screen and on the street before this pair of model years even shipped.
Power comes from the 80-cubic-inch (1,340cc) air-cooled Evolution V-twin, fed by a 38mm Keihin carburetor, delivering a claimed 67 hp at 6,000 rpm through a 5-speed transmission with belt final drive — the same engine platform that powered every Fat Boy from 1990 clear through 1999, before the Twin Cam took over for 2000. Styling stayed completely faithful to the original template: solid disc aluminum wheels front and rear (a design element unique to the Fat Boy among Harley's lineup), deeply valanced fenders, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a round chrome-housed headlight, and a wide one-piece dual seat with forward-mounted controls for a genuinely relaxed riding position.
The Softail chassis hides the rear shocks beneath the transmission for that signature hardtail look while still delivering real suspension travel — a combination that, alongside the solid-wheel styling, has made these early-'90s Evolution-era Fat Boys increasingly sought after by collectors. Dry weight sits in the 670-710 lb range depending on source and equipment, with a 5-gallon fuel tank and a 62.5-inch wheelbase.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 1993-1994 Fat Boy's Evolution engine and Softail chassis running the way it was built to.
