Softail Fat Boy FLSTF (2010): "The Original Icon of Fat Custom Styling," with a New Fuel Sender and a Helical-Cut Fifth Gear
Harley calls the Fat Boy the original icon of fat custom styling, rolling with stature second to none. For 2010 it gets a new fuel tank sender for accurate fuel-level readings and a new helical-cut fifth gear for improved transmission sound. The Softail rear suspension hides the shocks under the chassis to mimic the lines of a vintage hardtail frame, and the rigid-mounted powertrain gives a solid connection between the rider and the engine.
Power comes from the rigid-mounted, counter-balanced Twin Cam 96B, an air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves and hydraulic self-adjusting lifters. It has a 3.75 x 4.38 inch bore and stroke and a 9.2:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Claimed torque is about 125 Nm (92 lb-ft) at 3,000-3,500 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed Cruise Drive with a 9-plate wet clutch and belt final drive. The powertrain is black powder-coated with chrome covers, and the exhaust is a chrome over/under shotgun.
The styling is classic Fat Boy. It has silver bullet-hole disc cast aluminum wheels, a 200mm rear tire, a chrome front fork nacelle, a chrome nostalgic seven-inch ball headlamp and a chrome oil tank. There is a chrome tank console with electronic speedometer, a chrome bullet-studded seat valance and tank strap, a 1.25-inch internally wired handlebar on Bare Knuckle risers, full-size rider footboards and a two-piece two-up seat with removable pillion.
Dennis Kirk lists a 41mm fork, a 140/75VR-17 front tire, a 200/55VR-17 rear, a 133-tooth 20mm drive belt on 32/66 pulleys, an RA8HC spark plug, an H30292 oil filter and a YTX20HL-BS battery. Brakes are a single 292mm disc at each wheel, with a four-piston front caliper and a two-piston rear.
Confirmed figures list a 94.3-inch (2,396mm) length, a 64.4-64.5-inch wheelbase, a 31-degree rake with 5.8 inches of trail and a 25.4-inch seat height. The tank holds 5 gallons. Dry weight is about 690-694 lbs. Fuel economy is 35 mpg city and 54 mpg highway, and the US price was $15,999.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2010 Softail Fat Boy FLSTF running the way it was built to.
