Softail Fat Boy FLSTF (2007): “Bigger, Broader and Brighter,” with the Twin Cam 96B, a 17-Inch Front Wheel and a 200mm Rear Tire

Harley said the 2007 Fat Boy “grows bigger, broader and brighter,” and only the name stayed the same. The bike kept its brawny FL front end, silver disc wheels and giant Hiawatha headlamp, but each got a new twist. The front wheel grew from 16 to 17 inches, in new silver bullet-hole disc cast aluminum, and the headlamp sits in front of a new chrome fork nacelle. There’s a new 200mm rear tire under a chopped FL rear fender, giant bare-knuckle risers and a fat 1.25-inch custom internally wired handlebar. A new two-tone, two-up seat has a bullet-laced valence, with a matching leather tank strap on a traditional Fat Bob tank. There’s a new custom graphics package on the front fender, tank and rear fender, and the bike came in seven solid and four two-tone colors. The US price was $17,095 plus $290 destination.

2007 brought the new Twin Cam 96B, a rigid-mounted, counterbalanced, air-cooled 1,584cc V-twin with a 95.25mm bore and a 111.25mm stroke and a 9.2:1 compression ratio. Torque is about 121.8 Nm (about 90 lb-ft) at 2,750 rpm, up nearly 17 percent on the engine it replaced. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection is standard. The powertrain is black powder-coated with chrome covers. The gearbox is a new 6-speed Cruise Drive, with ratios matched to the torque curve and a tall sixth gear that drops engine speed on the highway, about 368 rpm lower at 120 km/h. Final drive is by belt.

Hardtail styling hides twin horizontal rear shocks under the frame. Confirmed figures list a laden seat height of about 25 inches, a dry weight of about 694 lbs (315 kg) and a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,160 lbs.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Softail Fat Boy FLSTF running the way it was built to.
