Softail Heritage Classic FLSTC/FLSTCI (2001): "In the Softail Range, This Heritage Is the One Best Suited to Cutting Kilometers"

A real French-market review confirms exactly where this bike sits within Harley's broader Softail family: "in the Softail range, this Heritage is the one best suited to cutting kilometers." Harley's own confirmed dealer copy describes the genuine design brief directly: "styled to recall the past the Heritage Softail Classic is a bike for riders who want the comfort of a modern bike with the classic look of a 1940s hardtail. With the Twin Cam 88B engine and detachable windshield, the Heritage Softail Classic is ready to tour or cruise."

Power comes from the rigid-mounted Twin Cam 88B, an air-cooled 1,449-1,450cc V-twin, a 95.3mm x 101.6mm bore and stroke, and an 8.8-8.9:1 compression ratio, delivering a claimed 62.5-64 hp (46-47 kW) at 5,300 rpm and roughly 78.2 lb-ft (106 Nm) of torque at 3,200 rpm, fed by either a 40mm constant-velocity carburetor with enrichener and accelerator pump (FLSTC) or 38mm-throttle-bore Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (FLSTCI), through a 5-speed manual transmission with belt final drive.

Standard equipment included a fat front fork, classic studded leather saddlebags in 1950s style, a chrome-studded seat, a full detachable king-size Lexan windshield, floorboards with heel-toe shifting, a large chrome headlamp with twin chrome passing lamps, a Fat Bob fuel tank, a chrome horseshoe oil tank with chrome external oil lines, and a chrome fork lock common with the ignition key — genuinely comprehensive touring equipment built right into the base specification rather than sold as extras.

Confirmed factory dimensions list a 94.5-inch length, a 25.4-26.5-inch seat height, 5.1 inches of ground clearance, a 32-degree rake with 5.8 inches of trail, and a 64.4-64.5-inch wheelbase. Fuel capacity comes in at 5.0 gallons (19 litres), with dry weight ranging 695.6-738.5 lbs depending on fuel-system configuration and exact source.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2001 Softail Heritage Classic FLSTC/FLSTCI running the way it was built to.
