Freewheeler 114 (2019): The Milwaukee-Eight Upgrade Lands on Harley's Bobtail Trike
Introduced in 2015 as Harley's first factory-built three-wheeler with a genuinely different personality than the touring-focused Tri Glide, the Freewheeler carved its own niche with mini ape-hanger handlebars and bobtail fenders for a lower, leaner profile. 2019 marked a genuine mechanical milestone: the Freewheeler's engine stepped up from the 107 cubic-inch Milwaukee-Eight to the larger 114, delivering a real boost in torque for a trike that carries substantial weight and benefits from every bit of low-end pull it can get.
The Milwaukee-Eight 114 delivers a claimed 89 hp at 5,450 rpm and roughly 122 lb-ft of torque at 2,250 rpm, run through a 6-speed transmission with reverse — a genuinely useful feature given the Freewheeler's 1,084 lb curb weight and three-wheel footprint that can't be walked backward like a two-wheeler. Standard electronics for 2019 included ABS, traction control, cruise control, and Harley's Reflex Linked Brake System, working together to keep the extra mass composed under braking and acceleration.
Front and rear tires run a 130/60HB-19 front against a substantial P205/65R-15 automotive-style rear tire, reflecting the Freewheeler's genuinely different suspension and handling requirements compared to a two-wheeled Softail or Touring model. Seat height sits at a low, easy 27.6 inches, with quick-detach windshield hardware and keyless ignition rounding out standard convenience features. A 6-gallon fuel tank supports a claimed 39 mpg. 2019 pricing started at $28,099.
