Street Glide FLHX (2018): The Original Stripped-Down Hot Rod Bagger on the Milwaukee-Eight 107

Harley’s line for the 2018 Street Glide is that there’s a pride that comes from riding the original, and when it comes to the stripped-down hot rod look, that’s the Street Glide. It has been in the line since 2006, with the fork-mounted Batwing fairing’s iconic shape for smooth airflow and reduced head buffeting. The Milwaukee-Eight 107 backs up the look with massive torque, along with high-performing front and rear suspension with easily hand-adjustable rear shocks and Reflex linked Brembo brakes with optional ABS. The Boom! Box 4.3 infotainment system puts out 25 watts per channel with Bluetooth and a USB port. The wheels are Enforcer cast aluminum, and the 2018 US price was about $20,999.

The engine is the Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1,746cc air/oil-cooled V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves and four valves per cylinder. Bore and stroke are 100.1mm x 111.3mm (3.937 x 4.375 in), with a 10:1 compression ratio and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. Torque is 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) at 3,250 rpm, and power is about 89 hp at 5,450 rpm. The exhaust is a chrome 2-1-2 dual system with tapered mufflers, and the gearbox is a 6-speed with a 34/46 chain primary drive and belt final drive.

The chassis has a 26-degree rake with 6.7 inches (170mm) of trail on a 64-inch (1,625mm) wheelbase. Brakes are dual front discs and a single rear disc with 32mm four-piston fixed calipers, and tires are a Dunlop Multi-Tread 130/60B19 61H at the front and a 180/65B16 81H at the rear. The bike is 96.5 inches (2,450mm) long, 37.8 inches (960mm) wide and 53.1 inches (1,350mm) high, with 5.3 inches (135mm) of ground clearance. Seat height is 26.1 inches laden and 27.4 inches unladen.

The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres), engine oil capacity is 5.2 quarts with the filter, and the saddlebags hold about 2.3 cubic feet (65 litres). The Street Glide weighs 796 lbs (361 kg) as shipped and 829 lbs (376 kg) in running order, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,360 lbs and a payload of about 531 lbs.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Street Glide FLHX running the way it was built to.
