Street Glide FLHX (2008): "A Dresser With an Edge" — Hot-Rod Bagger Styling Meets Full Touring Capability
Harley's own factory copy for this exact model year frames the Street Glide's genuine dual identity directly: a dresser with an edge for riders wanting considerable custom and comfort, taking key styling cues straight from the custom bike marketplace while still delivering full touring capability. A genuine serialized 105th Anniversary edition was sold alongside the standard FLHX that year, celebrating Harley's company milestone.
Power comes from the air-cooled Twin Cam 96, a 1,584cc V-twin, pushrod-operated overhead valves with hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, a 95.3mm x 111.3mm bore and stroke, and a 9.2:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), delivering a claimed 87 hp (63.5 kW) at 5,450 rpm and roughly 92-92.6 lb-ft (125.6 Nm) of torque at 3,000-3,500 rpm through a 6-speed Cruise Drive manual transmission with belt final drive. Harley's own copy confirms genuine clutch refinement that year: reduced lever effort alongside the new Twin Cam 96, 6-speed Cruise Drive, and ESPFI combination.
Standard equipment included an 80-watt Advanced Audio System by Harman/Kardon, a 40-watt CB radio and intercom system, locking GTX nylon alloy saddlebags, a fiberglass adjustable King Tour-Pak with passenger backrest, custom-fit soft luggage liners, a one-piece two-up Electra Glide comfort-stitch touring saddle, and standard cruise control, with Chrome Aluminum Profile Laced wheels offered as an option. Braking used dual 292mm front discs with Brembo 4-piston calipers and a single rear disc.
Confirmed factory dimensions list a 94.5-inch length, a genuinely low 26.3-inch laden seat height (27.3 inches unladen), 4.7 inches of ground clearance, a 26-degree rake with 6.2 inches of trail, and a 63.5-inch wheelbase, riding on MT90B16 front and MU85B16 rear Dunlop tires. Fuel capacity is 6 gallons, with 4 quarts of engine oil. Shipped weight sits at 749 lbs (786 lbs in running order), and 2008 US pricing started at $18,675.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2008 Street Glide FLHX running the way it was built to.
