Electra Glide Ultra Limited Low FLHTKL (2018): The Lowest-Seat Touring Harley, Fully Loaded
Harley’s pitch for the Ultra Limited Low is “you don’t have to be big in stature to ride a machine that’s big on touring features.” It has been re-engineered with lowered front and rear suspension (about one inch lower than the standard bike), giving it the lowest seat height in Harley’s touring line, just 26.5 inches (673mm) off the ground. That puts the ground within a short reach of your boot soles and makes lifting off the side stand easier, and there’s an extended-reach side stand. There’s less reach for your arms and fingers too, with a closer handlebar position and reduced-diameter grips that make working the clutch and front brake levers easy for smaller riders. Everything else is Ultra Limited: heated hand grips with six settings, the Boom! Box 6.5GT touchscreen audio system with GPS, a Tour-Pak, Reflex linked Brembo brakes with ABS and Daymaker LED headlight and fog lamps. The 2018 US price was $26,899 plus $435 destination.
The engine is the Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight 107, which Harley called its most powerful, coolest-running motor yet, with precision liquid-cooled cylinder heads and the rear exhaust pipe and catalytic converters repositioned away from the passenger for less heat. It’s a 1,746cc V-twin with four valves per cylinder, a 100mm bore, a 111.1mm stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio, with a high-flow airbox and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection with heated O2 sensors. Torque is about 111-114 lb-ft (about 150-155 Nm) at 3,250 rpm, and the exhaust is a chrome 2-1-2 dual system with tapered mufflers. The gearbox is a 6-speed Cruise Drive with an Isolated Drive System for smooth power delivery.
The front suspension is a 49mm Showa Dual Bending Valve fork (lowered), with large-diameter hand-adjustable emulsion rear shocks. Rake is 26 degrees with 6.7 inches of trail on a 64-inch (1,625mm) wheelbase. Brakes are four-piston front and rear calipers, and tires are a Dunlop Multi-Tread 130/80B17 65H at the front and a 180/65B16 81H at the rear. The bike is 102.4 inches long, with 4.6 inches of ground clearance. Seat height is 25.6 inches (650mm) laden and 26.6 inches (675mm) unladen.
The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres), engine oil capacity is about 5 quarts with the filter, and the Tour-Pak and saddlebags hold about 4.7 cubic feet. The Ultra Limited Low weighs 873 lbs (396 kg) as shipped and 908 lbs (412 kg) in running order, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,360 lbs.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep an Electra Glide Ultra Limited Low FLHTKL running the way it was built to.
