Rider Magazine's own dyno testing called this bike's engine "the hell-hath-frozen-over news for 2014": genuine partial liquid cooling, a first for Harley's production line, shared with only the Tri Glide Ultra and CVO Limited that year. On Jett Tuning's dyno, the test bike put down 95.0 lb-ft of torque at 3,700 rpm and 79.2 hp at 5,200 rpm at the rear wheel, 11.5% and 16.3% higher respectively than the standard air-cooled 103.

Power comes from the Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103, a 1,690cc V-twin with coolant circulating around the exhaust valve area of the cylinder heads, hidden inside faux lower glove-box assemblies on the engine guards, so no bulky radiators were needed. The liquid cooling let Harley push compression from 9.6:1 to 10.1:1, and combined with a new camshaft optimized for low-end torque and a higher-flow airbox, Harley claimed a 10.7% torque increase over the standard 103 — a gap that widens past 20% approaching the 5,800-rpm redline. Despite the added cooling, the engine keeps the same pushrod, two-valve-per-cylinder architecture with hydraulic self-adjusting lifters as before.

Standard equipment includes Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS, electronic cruise control, the Security System, unique two-tone paint schemes, a premium Tour-Pak luggage rack with plush removable liners, heated hand grips, LED headlight and fog lights, and the new Boom! Box 6.5 GT audio system with GPS, touchscreen, Bluetooth, a 25-watt-per-channel amplifier and four speakers. The batwing fairing was restyled with a slipstream vent, and its lowers now conceal twin radiators in the space previously used for storage.
