Power comes from the Twin-Cooled, High Output Twin Cam 103, a 1,690cc four-stroke V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves, hydraulic self-adjusting lifters, and a 10.0:1 compression ratio, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection with a single-fire, map-controlled spark ignition. It delivers a claimed 106.2 lb-ft of torque at 3,750 rpm through a multi-plate wet clutch, a 6-speed transmission with chain primary and belt final drive, and electric reverse actuated by handlebar-mounted hand controls.

The frame is mild steel with twin downtubes and a rectangular-tube swingarm, running a 41.3mm telescopic fork with Triple Circuit Damping at a 26-degree rake and 100mm of trail. Disc brakes are fitted at all three wheels, with a front MT90B16 tire and two P205/65R15 rears on seven-spoke black cast aluminum wheels.

Confirmed factory figures list a 105.1-inch overall length, 54.7-inch width, 56.3-inch height, and a 27.1-inch laden seat height (28.3-28.9 inches unladen). NHTSA's own vehicle data lists 80 horsepower for this model year.
