Harley Davidson FLHRXS Road King Special 2018 Service Manual

Harley’s line for the 2018 Road King Special is “if you want to know what ruling the road truly feels like, reach for the mini-ape handlebars... and send some fuel to its Milwaukee-Eight 107 engine.” The Special takes timeless touring style and injects it with dark custom attitude, drenched in black from the front forks to the exhaust. New for 2018 were a blacked-out powertrain with a unique engine-turned air cleaner insert (a first for the Milwaukee-Eight), blacked-out triple clamps, forks, headlight nacelle with a black trim ring, engine guards and a console with engine-turned highlights. It rides on new gloss black Turbine cast aluminum wheels, a 19-inch front and an 18-inch rear, with stretched saddlebags and the FLHX rear fascia for a slammed profile. The mini-ape handlebar is 9 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide, so you sit taller and ride more aggressively. It shares the same front and rear suspension as the Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special, with easily hand-adjustable rear shocks and Reflex linked Brembo brakes. ABS, the security system and cruise control are standard. The 2018 US price was $21,999 plus $435 destination ($22,449 in a color, $24,399 in Hard Candy Custom).

The engine is the Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1,746cc air/oil-cooled V-twin with four valves per cylinder, a 100mm bore, a 111.1mm stroke and a 10:1 compression ratio. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection feeds it. Torque is 111 lb-ft (150 Nm) at 3,250 rpm, power is about 89 hp at 5,450 rpm, and the exhaust is a chrome 2-1-2 dual system with tapered mufflers. The gearbox is a 6-speed with belt final drive.

Brakes are 32mm four-piston fixed calipers on dual front discs and a rear disc, and tires are a Dunlop 130/60B19 61H at the front and a 180/55B18 80H at the rear. Rake is 26 degrees with 6.9 inches of trail on a 64-inch (1,625mm) wheelbase. The bike is 95.3 inches long, with 4.9 inches of ground clearance. Seat height is 26.4 inches laden and 27.4 inches unladen.

The tank holds 6 gallons (22.7 litres), engine oil capacity is 5.2 quarts with the filter, and the saddlebags hold about 2.5 cubic feet. The Road King Special weighs 783 lbs (355 kg) as shipped and 820 lbs (372 kg) in running order.
