Road King Classic FLHRC (2018): Whitewalls, Spoked Wheels and Leather-Bound Saddlebags on the Milwaukee-Eight 107
Harley’s line for the 2018 Road King Classic is “whitewalls, spoked wheels and leather-bound saddlebag insert. There’s a reason we call this one the Road King Classic.” It has chrome steel laced wheels with custom wide whitewall tires, saddlebags with one-touch latches and a King Size Detachables windshield. The Classic also has a dual halogen headlight, a streamlined fender, an ergonomic handlebar with hand controls, electronic cruise control as standard and dual front floating brake rotors with Reflex linked brakes and ABS (an option in some markets). For 2018 it’s powered by the new Milwaukee-Eight 107, with Showa Dual Bending Valve front suspension, bigger pistons and hand-adjustable emulsion rear shocks, and a narrow primary drive. Colors included Bonneville Salt Pearl, Olive Gold/Black Tempest, Silver Fortune/Sumatra Brown, Twisted Cherry/Silver Fortune and Vivid Black, and the German price was about €23,995.
The engine is the Milwaukee-Eight 107, a 1,745cc V-twin with pushrod-operated overhead valves, hydraulic self-adjusting lifters and four valves per cylinder, a 10:1 compression ratio and Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes 66 kW (about 90 hp) at 5,450 rpm and about 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) of torque at about 3,250 rpm. The exhaust is a chrome 2-1-2 dual system with tapered mufflers, and the gearbox is a 6-speed with a 34/46 chain primary drive and belt final drive. European fuel economy is about 4.9 L/100 km.
The chassis has a 26-degree rake, a 29.25-degree fork angle and 170mm (6.7 inches) of trail on a 1,625mm (64-inch) wheelbase. The front tire is a Dunlop D402F MT90B16 72H on a 16-inch wheel. The Classic is about 2,420mm (95.2 inches) long, 930mm (36.6 inches) wide and 1,430mm (56.2 inches) high, with 125mm (4.9 inches) of ground clearance. Seat height is 715mm (28.1 inches) unladen.
The tank holds 22.7 litres (6 gallons). The Classic weighs about 362 kg (798 lbs) dry and about 376 kg (829 lbs) ready to ride.
