Road King FLHR (2014): The One Rushmore Bike That Didn't Get a Hydraulic Clutch

Rider Magazine's own Project Rushmore launch coverage flags a genuine exception worth knowing: "hydraulically actuated clutches finally replace the cable on all of the Rushmore bikes except the Road King." Every other bike in the eight-model 2014 lineup got the upgrade — the Road King alone kept its cable clutch that year, a real distinction worth checking if you're servicing the clutch system on this specific model against its Rushmore-era siblings.

Power comes from the High Output Twin Cam 103, a 1,690cc air-cooled V-twin, delivering more low-end torque and passing power through a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission for confident hill-climbing and two-up riding with luggage. Standard equipment includes the new Reflex linked ABS, all-new gauges, and redesigned saddlebags that open easily with one hand — a genuine convenience upgrade over the outgoing latch design.

The classic Hiawatha headlamp remains the Road King's defining feature, harking back to the Big Twins of the 1960s. Confirmed factory dimensions list a 96.5-inch length, a 26.7-inch laden seat height (28.2 inches unladen), 5.3 inches of ground clearance, and a 6.7-inch trail. New paint color options were offered alongside the powdercoated black finish carried over from Harley's Rushmore-wide styling update.
