Fat Boy 114 (2024): Three Decades In, Still the "Husky" Original
Cycle World's own review of the original 1990 Fat Boy praised its "monochromatic paint and beefier styling," noting it seemed more solid than anything else in Harley's lineup — a description that still applies to the 2024 model over three decades later. The current-generation platform, introduced in 2018, offered both 107 and 114 cubic-inch engines until 2020, when the full-size Milwaukee-Eight 114 became the sole option, cementing the Fat Boy's identity as Harley's unapologetically heavy-hitting cruiser.
The Milwaukee-Eight 114 remains the proven, unchanged powerplant, delivering strong torque through a 6-speed gearbox with belt final drive. A dual-bending-valve 49mm telescopic fork with aluminum triple clamps and dual-rate springs handles front suspension duties, hidden behind the Fat Boy's signature "beer can" fork covers — a styling detail that, along with the '57 Chevy-esque headlight nacelle, gives the bike its distinctly Americana look.
The trademark stance comes from Lakester disc wheels — not the fully solid discs the original 1990 model debuted with, but a design that reduces crosswind sensitivity while keeping the visual weight — wrapped in a 160/60R18 front and massive 240/40R18 rear tire. Dimensions run 93.3 in. long with a 65.6 in. wheelbase and a genuinely low 26.6 in. unladen seat height, carrying a 5-gallon tank. All-LED lighting throughout includes signature position lighting front and rear. 2024 pricing started at $21,999 for Billiard Gray, with Vivid Black, Red Rock, and Sharkskin Blue available at incremental cost.
