Road Glide (2024): Three Trims Become One, and the Sharknose Gets a New Face
2024 marked the year Harley genuinely reinvented the Road Glide rather than refreshed it. What used to be three separate trims — Standard, Special, and ST — collapsed into a single FLTRX model, effectively combining the most popular features of all three into one bike and simplifying what had become a genuinely confusing dealership decision for buyers.
The Milwaukee-Eight 117 was reworked with a new cooling system, liquid-cooled cylinder heads, and enhanced intake and exhaust flow, delivering increased displacement, torque, and horsepower over the previous generation while also improving thermal comfort for the rider during low-speed riding and hot weather. Despite the added technology, the 2024 Road Glide comes in 16 lbs lighter than the 2023 Road Glide Special, a genuine improvement to acceleration and braking rather than just a spec-sheet claim.
The redesigned Sharknose fairing and windshield were developed using computational fluid dynamics and wind-tunnel analysis to cut buffeting and rider fatigue, with adjustable air vanes letting riders fine-tune airflow. New "W"-shaped LED headlight styling and integrated Church Window LED tail lights give the bike a genuinely aggressive, modern silhouette, while a lower-profile redesigned tank keeps the 6-gallon capacity intact. A Skyline OS-powered infotainment system brings navigation, three display options, and connected features, backed by selectable Ride Modes for tailored power delivery and traction control. New 2024 colors included Alpine Green, White Onyx Pearl, Blue Burst, and Whiskey Fire.
