Genie GTH-636 / 644 / 842 / 844 / 1048 / 1056: The Six-Model Rough-Terrain Telehandler Family

Genie's GTH telehandlers are rough-terrain telescopic handlers for construction, landscaping and agriculture. The model numbers tell you what each machine does: the first digits are the rated capacity in thousands of pounds and the last two are the maximum lift height in feet. On that pattern the 636 and 644 lift 6,000 lbs to 36 and 44 feet, the 842 and 844 lift 8,000 lbs to about 42 and 44 feet, and the 1048 and 1056 lift 10,000 lbs to 48 and 56 feet.

The figures I confirmed bear that out. The GTH-636 lifts 6,000 lbs (2,722 kg) to 36 feet with 21 ft 11 in of forward reach. The GTH-844 lifts 8,000 lbs (3,629 kg) to 43 ft 10 in with 28 ft 2 in of reach. The GTH-1056 lifts 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg) to 56 ft 10 in with 42 feet of reach.

The family shares one set of design features. It has full-time planetary four-wheel drive with four-wheel steer, variable-speed hydrostatic drive and a proportional frame-leveling chassis that can pick up and place loads on side slopes of up to 10 degrees. Control is by a multi-function proportional joystick, and a manual Genie Quick-Attach system takes a variety of attachments. The cab has tilt steering and ergonomic controls.

Because six models share a manual, use the model and serial number plate to confirm the exact machine before relying on any specification, hydraulic setting or part number, since boom, axle and engine details differ between the 6,000, 8,000 and 10,000-lb classes.
