Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak (2016-2017): Celebrating Four Wins at the "Race to the Clouds," Built Directly on the 1200 S Platform

Total Motorcycle's own launch coverage confirms exactly why Ducati brought this trim back to the range and where it sits alongside its 2017 stablemates: "joining the Multistrada 950 and the Multistrada 1200 Enduro is the sophisticated Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak, inspired by the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race in Colorado, already won four times by Ducati. These motorcycles complete a range that already included the Multistrada 1200, 1200 S and 1200 S D|air – unchanged with respect to their 2015 versions." Autoevolution's own account confirms the genuine racing heritage behind the name directly: "a special edition machine celebrating the victory at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race in Colorado, USA."

Power comes from the Testastretta DVT (Desmodromic Variable Timing), a 1,198.4cc liquid-cooled 90-degree L-twin, DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder and dual spark, a 106mm x 67.9mm bore and stroke, and a 12.5:1 compression ratio, delivering a claimed output ranging from 152-160 hp at 9,500 rpm and 94-100 lb-ft (128-136 Nm) of torque at 7,500 rpm, fed by Bosch electronic fuel injection through elliptical throttle bodies with ride-by-wire. Total Motorcycle's own detailed technical account confirms this exact model year's genuine engine refinement: "the 2017 version of the Multistrada 1200 features an airbox with a different air intake area and new engine settings. These changes have enabled the twin Testastretta DVT engine to optimise power delivery at mid rev range."

Motoplanete's own detailed French review confirms exactly what genuine premium hardware this Pikes Peak trim borrows from across the range: "the Pikes Peak edition takes elements from the MTS 1200 S, such as the color TFT instrument panel with Bluetooth, the IMU inertial unit, the fully LED headlamps with cornering lights, and big brakes with 330mm discs and Brembo M50 calipers. On the 1200 Enduro, it has stolen the VHC hill-start assist" — a genuinely deliberate cherry-picking of the best available equipment across the wider Multistrada 1200 family, assembled into this single flagship-styled variant. That same review confirms the shared electronics suite across the whole range: "riding modes (Urban, Touring, Sport and Enduro), cornering ABS, traction control, anti-wheeling, cruise control, backlit controls and keyless start."

Total Motorcycle's own styling account confirms the genuine cosmetic package that distinguishes this trim visually: "developed on the technical foundations of the Multistrada 1200 S, the Pikes Peak version has a new race-inspired colour scheme... in dedicated white red and black livery with Ducati red chassis, while the 3-spoke black wheels have a racing-inspired red trim. In addition to the as-standard silencer and nose fairing, a carbon Ducati Performance silencer by Termignoni (EU type-approved) and a low racing-type carbon screen are also available for the Pikes Peak version. Further carbon fibre components include the front mudguard, front tank cover and lateral front partitions, while the red-stitched seat has been specially designed to bring out this Multistrada's racing" spirit. Ducati's own confirmed 2017 factory specification lists a 6-speed gearbox with straight-cut primary gears at a 1.84:1 ratio, and Ultimate Specs' own confirmed curb weight lists 208kg (458.6 lbs). Braking uses dual 320mm (or 330mm depending on the specific configuration noted above) semi-floating front discs with Brembo four-piston calipers and a 265mm rear disc with a two-piston floating caliper, both backed by standard cornering ABS. Motorcycle.com's own confirmed 2017 US pricing lists $23,795 MSRP for this range-topping trim.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2015-2017 Multistrada 1200 Pikes Peak running the way it was built to.
