Monster 937/Plus (2021-2024): "The New Monster Is New Age," Ditching the Trellis Frame That Defined It

MOTORESS's own ride review captures the genuine shock of this generation's arrival directly: "it still possesses traditional elements. Its low seat, dual-barrel shorty exhausts, the bison-back fuel tank, and lean stance. But that's where the Monster ancestry ends... namely, the absence of the classic Monster trellis frame." Ducati's own production announcement frames the significance for the brand overall: with over 350,000 units produced since 1993, the Monster remains "the best-selling and the longest running" model family in Ducati's history — and this 2021 reinvention marked a genuine return to the original 1993 philosophy of "a lightweight and essential sport naked with a frame derived from the Superbike," even while abandoning the steel trellis construction longtime Monster fans associated with that philosophy.

Power comes from the Testastretta 11°, a 937cc liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin (Ducati calls it longitudinal L-twin) with desmodromic valve actuation, DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder via a majorly oversquare 94mm bore and 67.5mm stroke, and a genuinely high 13.3:1 compression ratio, delivering a claimed 111 hp at 9,250 rpm and roughly 69 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm through a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-self-servo clutch — TopSpeed's own review notes this mechanical safety net decouples the transmission from the engine to prevent excessive back-torque that would otherwise cause rear-wheel hop under hard downshifts. MOTORESS's own testing found the power delivery genuinely predictable and easy to manage, though longtime Ducatisti expecting bottom-end torque punch will need to adjust — "the power is now at the top," a deliberate tuning choice that made this generation more approachable for riders across skill levels rather than intimidating.

An aluminum front frame replaces the trellis entirely, contributing to a genuinely light dry weight around 366 lbs (414 lbs per TopSpeed's slightly different measurement) — MOTORESS's own review found the bike "suddenly feels familiar, and unusually light" once actually riding it, despite the fundamental architectural change underneath. The Plus variant distinguishes itself from the standard Monster with a small front fly screen and a removable passenger seat cover, genuinely useful additions for riders wanting a touch more wind protection or the flexibility to run solo without the passenger perch visible. Braking uses dual hydraulic front discs and a single hydraulic rear disc, riding on Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires (120/70 ZR17 front, 180/55 ZR17 rear). 2024 brought a new Iceberg White colorway alongside the existing Ducati Red and Aviator Grey options, with US pricing starting at $12,995 — and TopSpeed's own coverage notes 2023 marked the point where the Monster Plus became the standard base-model Monster sold in the US market, reflecting genuine demand for the Plus's added versatility.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2021-2024 Monster 937/Plus running the way it was built to.
