F750GS/K80 (2018-Onwards): "It's About to Get Confusing," Bennetts Warns — This "750" Is Actually an 853
Bennetts' own review doesn't dance around the naming oddity: "BMW's new F750GS isn't actually a 750... it actually has a capacity of 853cc, which is identical to the F850GS." Launched in 2018 as a genuine ground-up replacement for the F700GS — not a revamp, per Adventure Bike Rider's own coverage — the F750GS shares its fundamental architecture with its bigger F850GS sibling while dialing back both the tune and the off-road-focused hardware for a more accessible, road-biased riding experience.
Power comes from the shared 853cc parallel-twin, DOHC with 8 valves and a 12.7:1 compression ratio via an 84mm x 77mm bore and stroke, delivering a claimed 76-77 hp at 7,500 rpm and roughly 61 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm — genuinely detuned from the F850GS's output specifically for smoother, more approachable on-road performance. Adventure Bike Rider's own coverage notes the engine, though manufactured in China, is fully assembled at BMW's Berlin factory alongside the flagship R1200GS, with the unit subjected to over one million development miles before reaching production — a deliberate response to any lingering reliability concerns about the sourcing.
A stiffer new steel bridge-type monocoque frame replaces the older tubular design, using the engine as a stressed member for increased rigidity, with the 15-litre fuel tank relocated from under the seat to its traditional position above the engine to optimize center of gravity — a genuine handling improvement over the outgoing F700GS's layout. MCN's own review details the specific hardware trimmed versus the F850GS: slimmer, non-adjustable 41mm right-way-up fork tubes (versus the 850's 43mm inverted units) and lower-spec cast aluminum wheels, alongside a lower 815mm seat height and shorter suspension travel (151mm front, 177mm rear) built to appeal to a wider range of rider heights. Despite the more modest hardware, Bennetts' review confirms buyers can spec the F750GS with the same full electronics suite available on the F850GS — cornering ABS, traction control, Dynamic ESA, Gear Shift Assist, and advanced rider modes — meaning the "entry-level" positioning doesn't sacrifice any of BMW's premium safety technology.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2018-onwards F750GS (K80) running the way it was built to.
