SR GT 200 (2022-Onwards): Aprilia's Racing Heritage, Reimagined as an Adventure Scooter
Aprilia's own tagline for the SR GT captures the pitch precisely: a sporty, dynamic scooter built for both urban commuting and out-of-town adventures. Unveiled at EICMA 2021 and reaching European showrooms in spring 2022 (with Asian markets following that June), the SR GT marked a genuine departure from Aprilia's traditional sport-scooter lineup — trading the SR line's street-focused DNA for long-travel suspension, all-terrain tires, and a full 175mm of ground clearance built for mixed-surface riding.
Power comes from the i-get 200 engine, a 174cc single-cylinder unit with a 61.5mm x 58.7mm bore and stroke, delivering a claimed 17.4 hp at 8,500 rpm and roughly 12 lb-ft of torque at 7,000 rpm, sent to the rear wheel through a CVT automatic transmission. Aprilia's engineering focused on refinement rather than outright power: a new aluminum cylinder with Nickasil coating pulls fuel-efficiency lessons directly from the motorcycling side of the business, paired with a Start & Stop system to cut consumption and emissions in stop-and-go city traffic. Euro5-compliant fueling and a 9-litre tank round out the drivetrain.
The chassis carries genuine motorcycle-grade hardware for the class: a double-cradle tubular steel frame, a 33mm Showa telescopic fork with 120mm of travel, and a twin Showa shock rear end with adjustable preload offering 100mm of travel — reviewers have consistently praised the setup as more sophisticated and communicative than typical maxi-scooter suspension. Braking comes from a 260mm front disc and 220mm rear disc, mounted to 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels wrapped in dual-purpose rubber suited to light off-road use. A genuinely useful 25-litre under-seat compartment swallows a full-face helmet, complemented by full LED lighting front and rear and an LCD instrument cluster with optional Bluetooth connectivity. Seat height sits at 799mm (31.5 in), with a wide motorcycle-style handlebar and upright riding position reinforcing the adventure-styled intent. Owner reports flag the variator belt and underseat latch mechanism as service items worth watching closely over time.
