Mojito 50 2T (2008-onward in Europe): Aprilia's Retro-Styled 50cc Two-Stroke Scooter

Aprilia launched the Mojito in 2004 as a retro scooter line: a Retro 50, a Custom 50 and larger 150cc versions. It leans on chrome, two-tone paint and a classic shape. The 50 two-stroke has a reputation for pep, and an unrestricted example is capable of about 45-50 mph. Colours on the 2008 Custom 50 were Cambridge White, Aprilia Black and Matt Black.

Power comes from a 49.4cc single-cylinder air-cooled two-stroke engine, with a 40.0mm x 39.3mm bore and stroke and a 10.3:1 compression ratio (the 2004-2005 engine used a 41.0mm x 37.4mm bore and stroke and an 11.3:1 ratio). It is carbureted, with electronic ignition and separate oil lubrication, so there's no petrol and oil pre-mix. Drive is an automatic CVT with a centrifugal clutch and belt final drive.

The chassis is a steel frame with a fork and link-type front suspension (80mm of travel) and a hydraulic rear monoshock (75mm of travel). Brakes are a 190mm front disc and a 120mm rear drum. Tires are a 120/70-12 front and a 130/70-10 rear.

Confirmed figures list a 1,900mm length, a 720mm width, a 1,100mm height and a 770mm (30.3-inch) seat height. Wheelbase is about 1,301mm. Dry weight is about 90 kg (198 lbs). The tank holds 7.7 litres including a 2-litre reserve. Check the engine number, since the earlier and later Mojito 50 engines have different bores, strokes and compression, which affects pistons, cylinders and carburetor jetting.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep an Aprilia Mojito 50 2T running the way it was built to.
