Dorsoduro 750 (2012-2015): The Final, Fully-Refined Years of Aprilia's Original Supermoto
Autoevolution's own model history traces the Dorsoduro 750's genuine origin story: first presented at the 2007 EICMA Show in Milan as the SMV 750 Dorsoduro, based directly on the Shiver 750 — sharing that bike's engine and frame, but with entirely different suspension tuning built specifically for supermoto-style riding. By 2012, the platform was in its fifth consecutive year of production, and this 2012-2015 span represents the final, most fully sorted chapter of the original 750cc Dorsoduro before Aprilia replaced it with the stroked-out 900cc version in 2017.
Power comes from a 749cc liquid-cooled 90-degree V-twin (Aprilia's V90 engine), DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder and a mixed gear/chain camshaft timing system, delivering a claimed 92 hp at 8,750 rpm and 60 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm through ride-by-wire throttle control and a 6-speed gearbox. TotalMotorcycle's own detailed breakdown of the related Dorsoduro 1200's engineering philosophy applies equally to the 750: a triple-map Ride by Wire system offering Sport, Touring, and Rain settings, an exhaust with a three-way catalytic converter and oxygen sensor, and an ultralight modular frame combining tubular steel trellis sections with aluminum castings for genuinely strong torsional stiffness without excess weight.
The ABS variant — the version most widely sold across this generation — added a sophisticated two-channel Continental ABS system, with TotalMotorcycle's own review noting the calibration was specifically tuned "to make full use of the Dorsoduro's impressive braking power and tire grip on dry surfaces," letting the safety system enhance rather than blunt the bike's sporting character. Braking hardware runs genuinely premium for the class: 4-piston radial Brembo calipers on lightweight 320mm front wave discs, paired with a 240mm rear wave disc and single-piston caliper, both ends fitted with aeronautical-style metal-braided brake lines to eliminate the sponginess of conventional rubber hoses. Suspension consists of a 43mm adjustable inverted telescopic fork up front and an adjustable, offset, horizontally-mounted rear shock working through an aluminum swingarm. Styling carried over consistently across this span: 12-spoke front and 10-spoke rear alloy wheels, a high-mounted front fender, a single seat, and dual underseat mufflers. 2015 US pricing for the ABS model landed at $10,299.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a 2012-2015 Dorsoduro 750 running the way it was built to.
