Softail Standard (2022): No Changes, Still the Cheapest Way Into Softail
Harley made no changes to the Softail Standard for 2022 — and for a bike whose entire pitch is "blank canvas for customization," that's arguably the right call. It remains the base-level entry point into the Softail range, priced to leave budget for the parts that actually matter to a builder rather than features most owners plan to remove anyway.
The Milwaukee-Eight 107 makes a claimed 92.5 hp and 110 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, delivered through a 6-speed gearbox with belt final drive, wearing black case and cylinder covers that make it easy to build in any direction without stripping off parts you just paid for. A Showa Dual Bending Valve fork and racing-style cartridge front end deliver genuinely capable handling for what's ostensibly a stripped-down bobber, with 30 degrees of rake and 6.2 inches of trail providing predictable, stable steering.
The 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheel combination balances classic proportions with practical grip, and the tuck-and-roll solo saddle, mini-ape bars, and shiny chrome accents keep the low-slung, post-WWII bobber look intact even in unmodified form. Dimensions run 91.3 in. long with a 26.8 in. seat height, riding on 100/90B19 front and 150/80B16 rear tires, shipping at 642 lbs (655 lbs in running order). The only 2022 color offered was Vivid Black, with pricing that increased $350 over the prior year due to a materials surcharge.
