Harley Davidson FXLRS Softail Low Rider S 2022 Service Manual

2022 brought the most substantial revision the Low Rider S has seen since it moved to the Softail platform: Harley swapped in the Milwaukee-Eight 117, up from the 114, delivering a claimed 125 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm versus the previous 119 lb-ft at 3,000 — essentially borrowing the same displacement Harley's own CVO models had been running. A new Heavy Breather intake, similar to a Screamin' Eagle parts-catalog kit, feeds the bigger engine.

The rear suspension got a genuine overhaul alongside the engine swap: a longer-stroke monoshock increased rear travel from 3.4 to 4.4 inches, seat height rose from 27.2 to 28 inches, and ground clearance jumped from 4.7 to 5.7 inches — pushing maximum lean angle from 30.1 to 31.3 degrees. The front end carries over largely unchanged, with the same 43mm inverted single-cartridge fork and dual front discs from the previous generation, now paired with Michelin Scorcher 131 tires on cast-aluminum Radiate wheels finished in dark bronze.

The cockpit changed too: gauges moved off the fuel tank and up to a new handlebar-mounted instrument cluster on the 4-inch risers, giving the cockpit a cleaner, more purpose-built look. Everything else stays deliberately blacked-out — wrinkle-black powertrain and primary cover, gloss-black derby cover and intake, satin-black handlebar, anodized-black forks, and jet-black mufflers — wrapped around a deep solo seat. Shipped weight comes in around 679 lbs.
