Sportster SuperLow XL883L (2019): The Lowest, Most Approachable Sportster, in Its Final Evolution-Era Form

The SuperLow is the entry point to the Sportster range, built around a low seat and a relaxed riding position. Harley's own line on it is that its value and quality have no competition in its class. A French test says the name is no coincidence. 2019 replaced the 2018 model, with a modest price rise at launch, and it is still the bike with the Sportster-style full-size tank, with a 4.5-gallon (17-litre) capacity, where the Iron 883 has a 3.3-gallon peanut tank.

Power comes from the air-cooled 883cc Evolution V-twin, with a 76.2mm x 96.8mm (3.0 x 3.8-inch) bore and stroke, fed by Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection. It makes about 52-53 hp and about 70-75 Nm (roughly 52-55 lb-ft) of torque. Drive goes through a multi-plate wet clutch, a chain primary and belt final drive. Parts data lists a 29-tooth front and 68-tooth rear pulley, a 1-inch 137-tooth belt and an NGK 6R12 spark plug.

The chassis is a mild-steel tubular frame with a 39mm Showa fork and dual-adjustable rear shocks. Brakes are a single front disc with a two-piston caliper and a single rear disc, with optional ABS. Tires are a 120/70ZR18 front and a 150/60ZR17 rear.

Harley's published dimensions for this chassis have stayed consistent across its run. They list a 2,215mm (87.2-inch) length, a 1,500mm (59-inch) wheelbase, a 695mm (27.4-inch) unladen seat height and 100mm (4 inches) of ground clearance. Dry weight is about 247-251 kg (545-553 lbs). Fuel economy is rated at about 4.8 L/100 km and top speed is about 160 km/h (99 mph).
