GSX-R1000R (2017-2025): Suzuki’s Flagship Liter Superbike, Carried Over Since the 2017 Redesign

The GSX-R1000R is the higher-spec version of Suzuki’s flagship superbike, and Suzuki’s pitch is that it’s the best liter-class supersport, with an unmatched combination of reliability, durability, usability and overall performance, plus excellent track potential. It was fully redesigned in 2017 and then held steady for seven years, with 2025 only adding new colors: Candy Daring Red / Glass Black with red wheels and gold-anodized suspension, or Metallic Matte Sword Silver with blue graphics and black wheels. The 2025 US price was $18,649, against $16,499 for the standard GSX-R1000. The solo tail cowl was an optional extra.

Power comes from a 999cc DOHC inline-four with Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing, and Suzuki says it delivers class-leading power smoothly and controllably across a broad rev range. The 2022 version made 202 PS (199 bhp) and about 86.7 lb-ft (117 Nm) of torque. The six-speed cassette-style gearbox has the Suzuki Clutch Assist System, a wet multi-plate clutch that acts like a slipper clutch on downshifts while increasing plate pressure under acceleration, and a Bi-directional Quick Shift System for clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

The R gets the higher-spec Showa suspension, a BFF fork and a BFRC-lite shock, both fully adjustable, where the standard GSX-R1000 has a BPF fork and a remote-reservoir shock. Confirmed figures list a 16-litre (4.2 US gallon) fuel tank and a curb weight of about 202 kg (445 lbs).

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Suzuki GSX-R1000R running the way it was built to.
