GSX-R1000 (2017-2025): Suzuki’s Standard Liter Superbike on the 2017 Redesign

The standard GSX-R1000 was part of the all-new 2017 range alongside the GSX-R1000 ABS and the top-spec GSX-R1000R, with a new engine, chassis and electronics. Suzuki says the new engine makes more horsepower and torque with variable valve timing. The new lighter and stronger aluminium twin-spar frame has Brembo monobloc calipers, T-drive rotors and a large full LCD display. Over the next seven years the bike held steady, with 2025 only adding new colors. The 2025 US price was $16,499, against $18,649 for the GSX-R1000R. It uses Showa’s BPF fork and a remote-reservoir rear shock, where the R has the higher-spec Balance Free fork and shock.

Power comes from a 999cc DOHC inline-four with Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing, a 76mm x 55.1mm bore and stroke and a 13.2:1 compression ratio, with 46mm throttle bodies. It makes a claimed 202 PS at 13,200 rpm and 118 Nm at 10,800 rpm. Electronics include ride-by-wire and 10-level traction control, and the R alone gets the quickshifter with blipper, launch control and cornering ABS. The cassette-style 6-speed gearbox has a clutch assist system that acts like a slipper clutch.

Confirmed figures list a 16-litre (4.2 US gallon) tank and a curb weight of about 202-203 kg. Because the 2017-2018 bikes have manufacturer recalls tied to specific frame numbers, check the VIN before servicing those years.

This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Suzuki GSX-R1000 running the way it was built to.
