GSX-R1000A (2017-2025): The ABS Version of Suzuki’s Redesigned Liter Superbike
The 2017 GSX-R1000 was an all-new bike with a new engine, chassis and electronics, and Suzuki offered it in three versions. The GSX-R1000 ABS is the standard model with ABS, and the “A” in the code marks that version, which arrived in dealerships in June 2017, a month after the others. The new lighter and stronger aluminium twin-spar frame has Brembo monobloc calipers, T-drive rotors and a large full LCD display. This version has the Showa Big Piston Front (BPF) fork, which puts the springs in the fork lowers submerged in oil to reduce foaming and improve damping, and a Showa rear shock. It skips the R’s Showa Balance Free suspension, quickshifter with blipper, launch control and cornering ABS. For 2021 and 2022 the engine was adapted to Euro 5 in Europe, and 2023 and 2024 stayed unchanged.
Power comes from a 999cc DOHC inline-four with Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing, a 76mm x 55.1mm bore and stroke, a 13.2:1 compression ratio and 46mm throttle bodies. It makes about 202 PS at 13,200 rpm and 118 Nm at 10,800 rpm. The electronics include ride-by-wire and 10-level traction control, and the gearbox is a 6-speed.
Confirmed figures list a curb weight of about 203 kg with ABS. Because the 2017-2018 bikes have a manufacturer recall tied to specific frame numbers, check the VIN before servicing those years.
This factory service manual covers the procedures, torque specs, and diagrams needed to keep a Suzuki GSX-R1000A running the way it was built to.
